Who we are
Our game is made by Around The Block Studios LLC, Michigan, United States. Questions and requests: info@aroundtheblockstudios.com.
The short version
Our game needs very little about you to work: an account id the game makes for you, your saved game, and your scores. Play data that helps us improve the game is optional and has a switch in Settings. We never ask for your real name, email, contacts or location (the family name you choose for the Standings can be anything), we show no ads, and we sell nothing about you to anyone.
What the game collects, and why
- An account id. When you first open the game, the game creates an anonymous account with a random id so your empire can be saved and found again. It is not your name or email. In the game it's called your ledger number (Settings → About). Needed for the game to work.
- Your saved game. Your buildings, levels, cash, gems, Operators, districts, timers and settings that belong to the account (not the ones that belong to the phone), saved to your account so it follows you to another phone. Needed for the game to work.
- Your scores and Play records for the weekly events. The points you score, the record of each scored job (which target, your plan, the result) so the game can check and rank it, and your display name (the name on the door: the family name you chose) as other players see it on the Standings. Needed for the Standings to work; you can play without ever scoring.
- Play data, optional. The first time you open the game you choose whether to share it; nothing is chosen for you, and nothing leaves your phone until you choose to share. If you share (the switch "Help improve the game" in Settings), the game sends events about how you play: what you built and when, how long you played, which screens you opened, errors and clock changes, along with your phone model and OS version. Never your name, contacts, messages, photos or location. You can turn it off any time; it stops immediately.
- Crash reports, optional (same switch). What the game was doing when it crashed, your phone model and OS version.
What the game never collects
Your name, email address, phone number, address, contacts, calendar, photos, files, messages, microphone, camera, precise or coarse location, advertising identifiers, or anything from other apps. The game shows no ads and has no ad SDK.
Who handles the data
Our game runs on Unity Gaming Services, made by Unity Technologies, which stores the data above for us: Unity Authentication (your account id), Unity Cloud Save (your saved game), Unity Cloud Code and Unity Leaderboards (scores, Play records, rankings), and Unity Analytics (the optional play data). Unity processes it on our behalf under its own terms; we don't give it to anyone else. Google Play handles the download and, when the game sells anything, the purchase; we receive purchase confirmations, never your card. Apple handles the download and, when the game sells anything, the purchase; Apple's Game Center keeps the link if you sign the Books with it; we receive purchase confirmations, never your card.
This website
This site uses no cookies, no trackers and no analytics. Our host (GitHub Pages) keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security; we don't see or use them. If you email us, we keep the email to answer you.
How long we keep it
- Your account id and saved game: for as long as your account exists. Closed-test players who played on at least 10 of the 14 test days keep their saved game for good, however long they're away; it is deleted only if they ask.
- Event Play records: 90 days, then deleted. Rankings of past weeks keep a row with your score and display name; if you delete your account, that name is replaced with "Deleted account".
- Optional play data: Unity Analytics keeps the raw events for 13 months, then deletes them automatically; the summaries and player profile built from them are kept until you delete your account or ask us to. Deleting your account, or "Clear my play data only", asks Unity to delete all of it sooner.
- Within 7 days of a verified deletion request, we delete the account and ask Unity to delete the play data; Unity finishes within 30 days.
Your choices
- Turn play data on or off: Settings → "Help improve the game".
- Change the name other players see: Settings → The Books → the name on the door (once every 30 days).
- Open your empire on another phone: Settings → The Books → "Show my key".
- Delete only the optional play data: Settings → The Books → Delete account → "Clear my play data only".
- Delete your account and everything with it: below.
Deleting your account
In the game: Settings → The Books → Delete account. Hold the button to confirm. Your empire, your key and your place on this week's Standings are erased straight away; past weeks' rankings keep the score, with your name replaced by "Deleted account". The game also asks Unity to delete the play data tied to your account, and Unity finishes that within 30 days. None of it can be brought back. Settings on your phone stay.
Without the game (for example, after uninstalling): email info@aroundtheblockstudios.com, subject "Delete my account", with your ledger number and the name on your door.
To make sure nobody can delete an empire that isn't theirs, we delete only when you send a deletion code: in the game, Settings → The Books → Delete account → "Get a deletion code". It works once and lasts 7 days. Never send us your key.
No longer have the game? You can still ask, and you don't need to reinstall to do it: write to us with your ledger number and the name on your door. We can only delete an account we can prove is yours, and that proof comes from inside the game, so we'll keep your request on file and delete the account as soon as you send a deletion code.
Within 7 days of receiving your code, we delete your account, ask Unity to delete the play data and reply to confirm. Unity finishes within 30 days of our request. Once it's gone, it can't be brought back.
Children
Our game is for players 17 and older. We don't knowingly create accounts for anyone under 17; if we learn that we have, we delete the account. If you believe a child is playing, write to info@aroundtheblockstudios.com.
Security
Everything the game sends travels encrypted (HTTPS). The data sits in Unity's infrastructure, protected by their security measures; no system is perfect, and we'll tell you if something goes wrong.
